When cleanliness is a must for your business due to the nature of your business then pest control is a must as well!
When your patients have special needs and are medically sensitive it is of the utmost importance that you have a clean, pest-free facility to take care of these people. If they have allergic reactions to spider bites then it is even more important to have the problem taken care of.
Here are some hints and tips on what to do to keep your facility pest-free.
- Entry points is the main concern when dealing with situations like this. Even though you may have the best cleaning crew on the planet they cannot take care of every entry way that pests come into your building and that is where OHA can help you.
- The worst area for pests to enter are in areas that are not so closely monitored like employee break rooms (outdoor eating areas are susceptible to ticks), locker rooms, janitor closets, shipping and receiving areas, etc. Train your staff to be on the lookout for pests in these areas and be sure that your cleaning staff take extra care in these areas.
- Doors and Windows need to remain closed and be properly sealed. If the doors or windows are closed but there is a gap in the seal have it repaired immediately.
- Pests and insects can come in from visitor’s clothing, flowers brought in, food deliveries etc. There is not much that can be done for visitors bringing in pests but it is a good idea to be mindful of this when it happens. Have the caretakers make note of that and inspect and possibly take care of the situation when it happens. For food deliveries the same thing applies. When you receive food or any other deliveries be mindful to inspect the packages as they become checked in and when you unpack the deliveries be sure to break down and dispose of them right away.
- Landscaping should be trimmed and neat not only for appearance but for also preventing rodents and termites easy access to the building from climbing into entry points that are higher up. Ants are notorious for getting into buildings in this way.
- Plumbing like in hotel pest control can be a source of unwanted pests. Be sure that the floor drains are cleaned on a regular basis, any leaks are fixed, pipes entering in and out of the building may have sealer and caulk that needs to be replaced. Pests can enter in the building if the caulk is cracked or part of the seal is missing.
- Pests like cockroaches in the kitchen area use the same rules as for restaurant pest control. Be sure you that you follow the FIFO (first-in first-out) policies of rotating product, keep food sources off of the ground, keep the area clean, and contact OHA about taking care of the areas that you cannot reach.
- Pests like bed bugs can come in on visitors or stuffed toys and transfer over to the bed sheets. So even if you keep the area super clean it is still possible for an infestation to begin.
